C.A.R.E. The Centre for Animal Rehabilitation and Education
Baboon & Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre Committed to Rescue, Rehabilitation, Release & Sanctuary Since 1989. Hands on Volunteer Opportunities in Africa with Primates
Volunteer Donation
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
- Winston Churchill
The volunteer program has been running for over 20 years and volunteers have been the back-bone of the organisation. Whilst we employ 12-14 local Africans from nearby villages, the main bulk of the Management and Supervisory team are at C.A.R.E. on a voluntary basis. The running costs of the centre are vast and therefore volunteers are vital.
We ask all volunteers to make a minimum donation to C.A.R.E. which covers food, accommodation, training time, education (all volunteers are provided with an extensive education and training program) and also funds some of the day-to-day running costs; to feed and care for the animals you will be coming to help.
As the animals at C.A.R.E. are not classified as an Endangered Species, it is very difficult for our team to raise enough funds to run the centre; the volunteer donation and help is essential.
Don't be put off by money though; through crowd-funding, bake sales or taking on an additional job and paying over a time period making your African Dream a reality can be easier than you imagine. We are also on hand to offer fundraising ideas, materials and advice.
Typical Costs Involved with Volunteering at C.A.R.E.:
Volunteers must have valid travel insurance/medical cover for the duration of their stay, cover all visa costs and transport to and from the centre.

“We, the C.A.R.E. team, would love to welcome you to join us as an important volunteer.
Please come and help us on our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, provide sanctuary and release animals. Give yourself the opportunity to get to know such a misunderstood species. Prepare for the baboons to get under your skin and Africa to get into your blood.
Your life will be changed forever; many suddenly find their horizons boundless, priorities shifted and not only can Africa make a positive impact on your life; you can be the positive difference to the lives of so many too.”
