C.A.R.E. The Centre for Animal Rehabilitation and Education
Baboon & Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre Committed to Rescue, Rehabilitation, Release & Sanctuary Since 1989. Hands on Volunteer Opportunities in Africa with Primates
" If you have found a wild animal or know a wild animal illegally being kept by a member of the public, you need to get it to a rehabilitation centre as soon as you can to ensure the safety of your family and the animal. We can enlist the help of the police and SPCA to confiscate wild animals if needed.
Baboons need specialist care otherwise they can become too humanised and dangerous for release. Put the animals' needs before your own selfish desires.
Be responsible and make a difference to the animals life! Keeping a wild animal without a permit is illegal and unethical. We want to give the animals the best chance to a wild life!
Be the difference and get in touch."

SECOND CHANCES
Q. DO WE RESCUE? A. YES!
C.A.R.E. is situated on the Olifants riverside in the heart of a Big 5 Nature Reserve, which is the perfect setting for real, successful wildlife rehabilitation. We have a specialised Veterinary Clinic and good relations with the permitting authorities to legally and safely transport animals.
Although situated in Limpopo we are happy to travel to rescue animals, we have a good network of people across the country who will assist if needed. We understand that most members of the public might struggle with transport, so don't worry, we will always make a plan! We really are dedicated to saving South Africa's wildlife and don't delay; as we know that wild animals need specialised care.
Our remote location however, does sometimes make communications difficult - signal strength for phones isn't always reliable. Please don't let this put you off contacting C.A.R.E., because the location is what makes C.A.R.E. so special. There are no other wildlife rehabilitation centres specialising in primates in South Africa situated in a Big 5 Nature Reserve. There are no boundary fences between C.A.R.E. and the Kruger National Park, meaning wild animals are free to roam.
Contacting us by phone is the best option for emergencies, but if it is offline we are also available on email and SMS. If you send us a message we will get back to you and we will help.
Do you need C.A.R.E. or should you contact another centre?
If you have an orphan baboon definitely contact C.A.R.E. - there are few true, registered rehabilitation centres that can help; and please never let orphans go to road-side zoos. If we feel there is a closer, better opportunity for the orphan we will make an informed plan.
If you have a Vervet Monkey, rather contact The Vervet Monkey Foundation who can give the best, specialist advice.
For other wild animals we can help or give the best advice on real, trusted places to call.
