Sponsor Square Troop

Named because their enclosure used to be a small square, thankfully we managed to move Square into a larger enclosure in 2013.

Square troop is quite small, but with a few large males it means that they need a lot of food to minimise aggression and stress caused by competition for food.

We began introducing orphans into Square in 2015.  Maple and Ursula were adopted by adult females Ariel and Maple.  In 2017 we used the wonderful surrogate Angel to adopt little orphan Birdie.

Bean arrived with cuts and bruises and a big tear in her ear.... she was less than 2 weeks old but she wanted to survive and is now thriving.  Fiore troop have happily adopted Bean as their baby along with recent orphans Winnie, Moby and Logan.  Fiore is the alpha female of this troop and her name means 'flower' in Italian.  Fiore is smallish but growing troop with 6 adult females, 4 adult males and 4 young juveniles.  They're fed;

3 sack-fulls of fresh food daily (R120)

52 (min) eggs per week - R105

1 1/2 bales of grass per week - R120

2kg bag of peanuts per week - R70

3 kg scatter feed (nuts, corn, seeds) per week - R80

6 kg dry food scatter  per week along with - R90

a bag of mealie meel per month which is pasted onto sticks and leaves and given as enrichment - R120 pm (R30 pw)

= R615  per week  ($55 / 40 GBP) per week ($210 per month)

It would be incredible to have someone cover all the weekly costs but understand that it isn't always financially feasible; therefore we hope to build up a few sponsors for this troop to help cover the costs monthly.  If you can give whatever amount you can, we will search for others and hope that between you we can cover the costs of caring for this gorgeous troop of baboons as they under-go their rehabilitation for release journey.
