Sponsor Nthethe Troop
Named Nthethe Troop after a talented young local vet which Rita was very invested in. Sadly Nthethe died in a road traffic accident. His memory lives on through the wonderful and dynamic Nthethe Troop baboons!
The original Nthethe orphans are now adults and awaiting release at the centre; they are READY! Recently, C.A.R.E. staff and volunteers successfully integrated young female ex-pet Zoey into the troop and we also bonded young orphans Ayla, Maddie and April to the females and they were successfully adopted into the troop.
Nthethe Troop now has improved sex-ratio, age ratio and also are a happier troop for having babies to dote over. The orphaned babies have benefitted too since they learn from baboons instead of humans and can be released sooner! If we could find a suitable release site these baboons are ready and willing to be free! Until then we need to keep them happy, stimulated and healthy in captivity!
You can help!
Nthethe are a special group of baboons with very sweet personalities. The adults are perfect release candidates especially now they have adopted some other young orphans into the troop as if they were born to the troop. Adopting the orphans has improved their troop structure and also ensured that the orphans are very wild without human contact.
They're fed;
3 sack-fulls of fresh food daily (R120)
60 (min) eggs per week - R110
2 bales of grass per week - R160
3kg bag of peanuts per week - R90
5 kg scatter feed (nuts, corn, seeds) per week - R100
10 kg dry food scatter per week along with - R140
a bag of mealie meel per month which is pasted onto sticks and leaves and given as enrichment - R120 pm (R30 pw)
= R750 per week ($65 / 45 GBP) per week ($251 per month)
It would be incredible to have someone cover all the weekly costs but understand that it isn't always financially feasible; therefore we hope to build up a few sponsors for this troop to help cover the costs monthly.
If you can give whatever amount you can, we will search for others and hope that between you we can cover the costs of caring for this gorgeous troop of baboons as they under-go their rehabilitation for release journey.
Choose what you want to sponsor, how much you can afford and how often with our weekly or monthly subscriptions.
