Named they Cheeky Chumbles troop because the 14+ orphans which made them up, after some TLC and good nutrition were cute, curious and 'chumbly' (fluffy and round and just chumbly).

In 2013 a two adult females Kim and Bianca were added and in 2016 we integrated two young orphans Eleanor and Brooklyn into the troop too. More recently in late 2017 Bibi-Conan was also adopted into the troop making it one of the larger troops at the centre.

Eleanor arrived at the centre with a massive head injury which caused seizures and a longer rehabilitation journey. We weren't sure she would make it but she wanted to survive and is now thriving. Cheeky Chumbles troop have happily adopted Eleanor as their baby along with recent orphans Brooklyn (arrived as an ex-pet with deformed wrists from being tied up) and Bibi-Conan. Cheeky Chumbles is a large-ish troop with 9 adult females, 7 adult males and 3 young juveniles. They're fed;

5 sack-fulls of fresh food daily (R200)

72 (min) eggs per week - R150

2 bales of grass per week - R160

3kg bag of peanuts per week - R90

5 kg scatter feed (nuts, corn, seeds) per week - R100

10 kg dry food scatter per week along with - R140

a bag of mealie meel per month which is pasted onto sticks and leaves and given as enrichment - R120 pm (R30 pw)

= R870 per week ($75 / 55 GBP) per week ($295 per month)

It would be incredible to have someone cover all the weekly costs but understand that it isn't always financially feasible; therefore we hope to build up a few sponsors for this troop to help cover the costs monthly. If you can give whatever amount you can, we will search for others and hope that between you we can cover the costs of caring for this gorgeous troop of baboons as they under-go their rehabilitation for release journey.
